Where can I place pegs, bolts etc. ? PDF Print E-mail
Please refer to the Mountaineering Council of Ireland recommendations on Climbing Policy and Bolting Policy in order to see what Irish climbers consider best practice at crags in Ireland.

In summary these policies state:

"For all established climbing areas in Ireland, bolting is not permitted. Bolts have been used in a handful of new climbing areas only (details of these crags can be obtained from the Rock Climbing Committee of the Mountaineering Council of Ireland). Anyone considering placing new fixed equipment or replacing existing equipment should take careful account of local climbing ethics, the environmental sensitivity of the area and public safety factors. The use of cliff-top belay stakes should be kept to a minimum, especially in popular or scenic areas where walkers have access to cliff tops."

"The Mountaineering Council of Ireland has debated this issue widely in the past and concludes that there is no place for the use of bolts at traditional rock climbing sites."
